Paula Aidoo.
NEW YORK · ENGINEERING, PRODUCT & IMPLEMENTATION

Hi, I’m Paula.

I’m a software engineer at BNY, with previous experience at The Wall Street Journal and ActionIQ. I’m interested in understanding what people need, figuring out what to build, and helping teams get it into use.

I’m exploring product, implementation, and strategy roles where I can bring technical context to decisions and stay close to users.

SELECTED WORK

Three problems I helped solve.

01BNY

Workflow improvement · Financial services

From six minutes to under one.

Improving presentation generation for wealth-portfolio managers.

Read the project story

The problem

A legacy presentation tool took roughly six minutes to generate a report. The workflow also had data inconsistencies that needed attention.

My contribution

I traced the process end to end, implemented batch processing, and resolved more than 20 data issues. My work also included programmatic presentation updates using Java and Aspose.Slides.

The implementation choice

I addressed how work was processed through the workflow, using batch processing to reduce generation time while also tackling data accuracy.

The result

Report generation fell from roughly six minutes to under one minute. The project connects an engineering change to a practical improvement in an advisor-facing tool.

Interactive storytelling · Media

Making economic data easier to explore.

Contributing interactive features to the WSJ Inflation Tracker.

Read the project story

The problem

The Inflation Tracker needed interactive experiences that let readers explore economic information within a news product.

My contribution

I helped design, develop, and deploy interactive Svelte features for the tracker. I also conducted more than eight interviews with journalists, product managers, and engineers, translating the findings into more than ten wireframes and prioritized recommendations.

Related implementation work

Across my WSJ work, I helped simplify a fragmented subscription journey across three user states and packaged newsroom widgets for editors to embed in articles.

The result

My contributions shipped as part of reader-facing interactive reporting, bringing engineering, presentation, and reader usefulness together.

Customer data analysis · Enterprise software

Turning usage data into platform recommendations.

Investigating the customer behaviors behind platform instability.

Read the project story

The problem

Teams needed a clearer view of the customer workload patterns associated with platform instability.

My contribution

I analyzed approximately 20,000 workload events across 83 enterprise customers using Python, SQL, and regression modeling.

From analysis to action

I connected the quantitative findings to operational risk and translated them into practical recommendations for engineering leaders.

The result

I presented the findings to more than 100 engineers and executives, helping teams prioritize reliability improvements.

EXPERIENCE

Where I’ve worked.

Software Engineer @ BNY

FEB 2024 — PRESENT

  • Improve wealth-advisor reporting by identifying more than 20 systemic data inconsistencies and redesigning the workflow, reducing report generation time from roughly six minutes to under one minute.
  • Translate advisor and portfolio-manager needs into clear product requirements for reporting and portfolio-analytics services.
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to evaluate feature proposals, surface system constraints, and guide practical implementation decisions.
  • Investigate advisor workflows and turn user needs, process gaps, and technical trade-offs into recommendations for product and engineering teams.

WHAT I BRING

Technical context.
Practical execution.

01

Workflow analysis

Find process gaps, trace how work gets done, and identify practical improvements.

02

User research

Turn conversations with users and stakeholders into clear requirements and priorities.

03

Product decisions

Connect customer needs, business trade-offs, and technical constraints.

04

Implementation

Work across product and engineering to move ideas from definition into use.

ABOUT

Technical background.
Practical curiosity.

My experience spans financial services, interactive journalism, and AI research. I’m drawn to work that involves asking questions, making sense of a workflow, and collaborating across disciplines to improve it.
